Top-ranked Rebels rough up rival Spartans 81-46
GRUNDY CENTER – Joe Smoldt knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 30 points as the Class 1A No. 1 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team routed rival Grundy Center 81-46 in Tuesday’s NICL West Division clash.
The win secured an outright conference title for the Rebels, making it three years in a row atop the league.
Camden Kickbush finished with 13 points, 13 assists and six rebounds, and Cameron Clark had 13 points for the Rebels (19-0, 13-0), who close out the NICL West slate at home Friday against East Marshall. Zach Pierce added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds, and Colton Dinsdale netted seven points in the win.
Grundy Center (8-11, 6-7) was led by Jack Stumberg’s 13 points. The Spartans could not overcome 18 turnovers in the loss, falling behind 33-13 after the first quarter. Austin Burroughs finished with eight points and four assists, while Jordan and Jarrett Stoner both had six points.
