CLARKSVILLE – The GMG football team was on the road last week Friday for a Week 2 8-Man District 6 clash with the Clarksville Indians. After a 2-game winning streak to open the season, the Wolverines were drubbed, 59-20, by the Indians.

Clarksville got out to early lead, scoring a single touchdown in the first quarter before piling on another 38 points in the second to GMG’s 14 points.

In the third quarter, GMG remained scoreless while the Indians added another 15 points. The Wolverines managed one touchdown in the fourth quarter.

GMG totaled 289 yards of offense with 206 of them coming through the air. Quarterback Ethan Klemesrud was 14-for-23 with a touchdown, connecting with Easton Sash for a 65-yard scoring strike. Sash finished with eight receptions for 123 yards, Jacob Snider had a 45-yard grab, and Jacoby Woodbury had three catches for 30 yards.

Klemesrud also rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown and led the Wolverine defense with 11.5 tackles. Sash had an interception, Caleb Ferch recovered a fumble, and Snider piled up seven tackles.

Clarksville rushed for 321 yards against GMG, led by starting quarterback Nathan Moon who had 18 carries for 164 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Moon also passed for 88 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Clarksville totaled 37 1/2 tackles, including two sacks. The Indians recovered four GMG fumbles and recorded five 2-point conversions.

GMG moved to 2-1 (0-1) following the game; Clarksville improved to 1-1 (1-0).

GMG was scheduled to travel out of district tonight, Friday, Sept. 11, to Malvern in the southwest corner of the state to play the East Mills Wolverines (2-1). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

The two Wolverines’ programs have never faced one another before.
