Rebels notch win over Meskwaki following forfeit

REINBECK – The Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team recorded a Week 2, district victory last Friday night without setting a cleat on the gridiron following a forfeit by the Meskwaki Settlement Warriors who were due to host the Rebels.

“Due to low numbers and injury concerns from our opponent, that game has been canceled,” G-R posted to social media ahead of the game while also indicating the matchup would not be rescheduled.

“We have attempted to contact a handful of schools that also have an opening this Friday to get another game added, but unfortunately those attempts were unsuccessful,” the post further stated. “So, we will not have a varsity game this Friday and will not be adding a game to replace it. Our game will go down as a victory for the Rebels by way of a forfeit.”

The Rebels (2-0, 1-0) were scheduled to host Colo-NESCO (2-0, 1-0) this past Thursday, Sept. 10, at “The Pit” in Gladbrook. Ahead of the game, both teams sat atop the 8-Man District 6 standings.

With the forfeit, Meskwaki moves to 0-2 (0-1) on the season.
