Clark, Rebels scamper past Redhawks

TRAER – Class A rushing leader Chase Clark eclipsed 1,000 yards for the season, racking up 200 yards and a pair of short touchdown runs as Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeated North Tama 35-7 for the shared program’s first win over the Redhawks in 13 tries.

Clark averaged 7.1 yards over 28 carries on the night, moving his season rushing total to 1,153. On a night in which the passing game couldn’t get it going, the Rebels rumbled for 244 of their 292 yards and took advantage of five North Tama turnovers.

G-R’s defense got to North Tama quarterback Brody Hulme five times, with Bryce Ehlers and Zach Pierce both recording two sacks.

Hulme finished 10-of-20 for 146 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. North Tama’s lone score was a 10-yard pass from Hulme to Riley Rohach, but G-R (4-2, 3-0) followed it with 21 unanswered points to put away the District 4 victory.

Phil Zimmerman returned his last of two interceptions for a touchdown for the Rebels, and Colton Dinsdale also picked off a pass.

Rohach led North Tama (1-6, 1-3) with 63 receiving yards on three catches. Hulme was the leading rusher with just 26 yards.

Camden Kickbush was 5-for-16 passing for the Rebels with a touchdown and no interceptions, and he also ran for a touchdown.

North Tama is off next Friday night while the Rebels will run into Grundy Center (5-2, 4-0) in a showdown that may determine the district title.
