REINBECK – The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls soccer team improved to 3-2 on the season this past Monday evening by beating Columbus Catholic, 2-1, in a road match. It was the second of two games the Rebels have played in recent days on the road after notching a pair of back-to-back wins over Marshalltown and then North Fayette Valley last week Monday (April 1) and Tuesday.

Statistics for Monday night’s game in Waterloo were not available in time for publication.

Sandwiched between the wins, GC/G-R traveled to Union Stadium in La Porte City on Thursday, April 4, to face Union-North Tama – a game the Rebels dropped 3-0, handing the Knights their first win of the season.

The shutout loss was cemented by the Knights’ formidable senior keeper Dacey Powell who tallied 18 total saves against the Rebels. As of press time, Powell led the state across all classes in saves.

Against Union-North Tama, junior forward Alex Yoder led the offense with six shots-on-goal, while senior Jada Blohm tallied three, freshman Prycely Beard had two, and sophomore Kali Aldrich, senior Lucy Lebo, and freshman Kinzie Hemann all notched one apiece.

GC/G-R junior keeper Jaden Hansen played most of the game for the Rebels, making six saves and allowing three goals, while her teammate senior Meaghan Martens had two saves in the net during her roughly 24 minutes of play.

Yoder has led the Rebels offense this season with four goals and 22 shots-on-goal. In the net, Hansen has made 19 saves and allowed seven goals across four games (not including Columbus Catholic).

Following Monday’s game, the Rebels were scheduled to play at home Thursday against Class 1A No. 9 Denver (3-1). The team will then get a week off before taking on Dike-New Hartford (3-1) on the road next Thursday, April 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Simons Field in New Hartford.
