JV Rebel football

A new season is upon us and it seems earlier every year. We have been working hard at preparing for this upcoming season and now on Monday August 26th, it all got going. We started fall football camp the first week in August so we were ready for some different bodies to push around. The kids and coaches have been working very hard. Now it was time to see how far along we are and how much further we can go. Denver was our first test. We knew this would be a tough one as the word on the street goes. Denver has a very good Freshmen and Sophomore class so we knew Coach Barrett and his staff would have their kids ready to go.

The game got going quickly for us as we took 6 plays to cover 62. The drive ended with a touchdown run by Eric Stoakes. Parker Bown converted on the PAT kick to make it 7-0 early. We keep Denver at bay as they really struggled moving the football. We added 2 more Stoakes TD runs before the first quarter was over and held a 21-0 advantage going into quarter number 2. Denver managed 2 first downs in the second quarter and that was about it for them. We added 2 Bown TD runs to close out the half at a commanding 35-0. We then scored our last TD on a Jake Schuman to Cameron Murphy pass covering 35 yards. Denver added a score to make the final 42-6. This was a pretty good start for us. We executed well and played hard. We controlled the line of scrimmage and made plays. The coaching staff was impressed with this opening night performance.

We ended the night with 317 yards on the ground and 128 through the air. These are very good totals for an opening game. Everyone deserves credit for this. Eric Stoakes, Parker Bown, Erik Knaack, Dmitriy Strohbehn, and Kainen Hendricks took care of the ground game for us. Jake Schuman took care of the quarterback chores and the receiving was done by Cameron Murphy and Josh Cooley. The linemen on both sides of the ball were Dalton Schwartz, Ty Eiffler, Bryce Clark, Jacob Walters, Jaden McGhee, Slade Wager, Spencer Goos, Jed Peterson, and Joe Pepe. These guys played well on both sides opening holes and making tackles. Jake Mohlis, Carter Murphy, Eric Pierce, Matt Roeding, Hunter Beachler, Joe Baugus, and Alex Tscherter all played a lot of minutes and were all very valuable on special teams. It was a great team effort and these guys all deserve credit for this outing. Good work by all of you and keep getting better every day.

Our next action will be Monday September 9th at Dike New Hartford. This will be a 6 p.m. start. Hope to see you all on the sidelines checking out G-R Rebel football for the future.
