GMG blanks Royals, Bolts for pair of conference wins

GREEN MOUNTAIN – After a somewhat bumpy start to the season, the GMG girls softball team turned up the heat, run-ruling both Colo-NESCO and Baxter at home on Friday, May 29, and Monday, June 1, respectively, to move to 2-3 on the season.
Against the winless Colo-NESCO Royals on Friday, sophomore ace Riah Boege threw a four-inning no-hitter in the 10-0 win, striking out 12 batters while issuing just one walk.
The Wolverines scored five runs in the first inning, one in the second and four in the third. Boege hit two doubles and a single and drove in five runs. Freshman Grace Mathern also hit a pair of doubles, scored a run and recorded two RBIs. Freshman Tatum Jones and sophomore Skyler Murty both crossed the plate twice, while freshman Addison Elmore; sophomores Bryleigh Bartel, Ryann Bessman and Arianna Pierce; and senior Rhianna Murty all scored once.
Royals pitcher Julie Banks gave up nine hits, struck out five and hit one batter in the loss.
This past Monday evening against the Baxter Bolts, Boege pitched another four-inning no-hitter, striking out 11 batters in GMG’s second 10-0 win of the season to move the Bolts to 1-6.
Against Baxter, GMG scored eight runs in the third inning and two in the fourth. Mathern recorded two of the Wolverines’ four hits, scoring twice and driving in one run. Freshman Natalie Upah and Rhianna Murty each scored once and drove in a run. Skyler Murty scored twice, while Tatum Jones, freshman Piper Jones, Bartel and sophomore Kaylee Beach all crossed the plate once apiece.
