MARENGO, Ohio – Alex Meggers, Gavin Hines, Gwen Wical and Anthony Dudys of the Steel Shooters of Traer brought home a bronze at the 2023 SASP National Championship as a non-collegiate team this year. The placement was for Optic Rimfire Pistol category.

The National Championship took place in Marengo, Ohio in July.

Individual National placements were made by Wical and Hines. Wical brought home first place Highest Overall Female in the Intermediate Division for Rifle, while Hines earned third place Highest Overall Male in Intermediate Division for Optic Pistol.

The team not only brought home National medals, they also picked up several Regional and State placements this season including the following:

-1st Place: Optic Pistol (Alex, Gavin, Gwen, and Anthony)

-1st Place: Pistol (Alex, Gavin, Gwen, and Anthony)

-2nd place: Rifle (Anthony, Alex, Gwen, and William)

-3rd place: Optic Rifle ( Alex, Gwen, Anthony and William)

Regional placements

-2nd place: Optic Pistol (Alex, Gavin, Gwen, and Anthony)

-2nd place: Pistol (Alex, Gwen, Anthony, and Gavin)

-3rd place: Iron Rifle (Anthony, William, Gwen, and Alex)

The team is comprised of students from North Tama, East Marshall, Dike-New Hartford, and Union middle schools.

The 2023 athletes include Alexander Meggers, Anthony Dudys, Elliot Dudys, William Dudys, Gwen Wical, Gavin Hines, and Owen Bruns.
