Fourth-ranked Rebels pull away from Knights
The Class 1A No. 4 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ basketball team used a big third quarter to pull away from Union Community for a 76-58 win in the Thursday, Dec. 15 NICL cross-divisional contest played in La Porte City.
The Rebels (6-0) outscored the host Knights (4-2) by a 23-10 margin in the third period to take a 19-point lead into the final frame, 59-40. G-R’s halftime lead was 36-30.
All five G-R starters scored at least eight points, led on this night by William Kiburis with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Caleb Egesdal tallied 16 points, Luke Riffey finished with 11 points, Isaac Clark scored 10 points and Drew Eilers added eight points.
Luke Sienknecht contributed five points off the bench, and Austin Vaverka added two.
That same night, the Rebel girls (3-5) also took down the host Knights – beating Union in overtime, 64-57. Stats were not available for the girls’ game.
