The Gladbrook-Reinbeck track and field team finally had their season opener last Friday as cold and windy weather canceled early season events over the past week and a half.

The Rebels joined a smattering of NICL and other area schools at the East Marshall Co-Ed Early Bird meet in Le Grand.

Dike-New Hartford continued what has been a dominating athletic campaign through the 2021-22 school year, winning both the boys and the girls team titles at the East Marshall meet by sizable point margins.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck again fielded track and field teams with limited roster numbers and ended up placing last in both the boys and girls overall team races last Friday.

The top finisher for the Rebels was junior Logan Giesking who won the high jump contest with a jump of 5-10.

The team also got points from the 4×800 meter relay team of Paul Brockett, Drew Eilers, Caleb Egesdal and Austin Vaverka who finished fifth out of nine relay teams with a time of

9:26.95.

On the girls side the only athlete to score points was sophomore thrower Xandra Anderson who came in fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 81-08.

The teams competed Tuesday at Grundy Center and will next be in action at Baxter on Monday.
