TAMA – Rebel cross country runner Caleb Pifkin added another accolade to his sophomore season with a runner-up finish in the boys varsity race at Monday’s STC Co-Ed Cross Country Invitational held at South Tama County High School in Tama.

Sophomore Pifkin finished in 18 minutes, 24.70 seconds in the eight-team scoring field, just ahead of STC sophomore Max Shirmer (18:27.8), who ran a season best. The race was won by Grinnell senior Aden Wolfe in 17:14.60. Wolfe was ranked 16th in Class 3A by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches heading into the race.

Rebel runner Caleb Bowser (21:08.40) finished 20th, Mason Wrider (24:41.70) 49th, Tavin Ruden (24:48.70) 50th, Campbell Gramer (24:53.80) 52nd, Braiden Sager (25:59.40) 59th, and Grayson Raffield (28:49.2) 69th.

GMG’s lone boys runner Braylon Darter finished 38th with a season-best time of 23:18.10.

Grinnell won the meet with 35 points, followed by the hosts (75) and East Marshall (90). Gladbrook-Reinbeck took sixth.

In the girls varsity race, GMG also fielded just one runner, sophomore Grace Mathern, who came in 15th with a season-best time of 24 minutes, 16.80 seconds out of 63 runners. G-R also only had one female varsity runner – freshman Colbie Fevold, who finished 39th with a PR of 28:00.3 seconds.

West Marshall’s Dalaney Eldridge, ranked No. 12 in Class 2A, won the girls race, finishing in 20:32.9.
