Wolverines work over fellow Wolverines for third win
MALVERN -The GMG Wolverines football team traveled nearly 3.5 hours to the southwest corner of the state to face a fellow 8-Man Wolverines team last Friday, Sept. 11. In the double-dose Wolverine matchup, GMG led East Mills wire-to-wire, 34-12, notching their third win of the season.
East Mills failed to score during the first three quarters, while GMG scored six points in the first quarter, 22 in the second quarter, and another six in the third quarter.
GMG led 34-0 to open the final quarter but failed to score again; East Mills finally got on the scoreboard with two touchdowns. The Garwin-based Wolverines claimed their third victory of the season, defeating non-district East Mills in the inaugural clash between the two teams.
GMG improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2021 thanks to a balanced offense. All five of the team’s touchdowns came on the ground– quarterback Ethan Klemesrud carried in three and Bodie Hutchinson rushed for two more. Between the two of them plus Jacoby Woodbury, GMG racked up 178 rushing yards. East Mills recovered two GMG fumbles. Both Klemesrud and Hutchinson were good for one 2-point conversion apiece.
Klemesrud led the GMG defense with 17 tackles; Hutchinson had 9.5, including two sacks; Easton Sash had eight; Woodbury had seven, including one sack. Sash had two interceptions for GMG (3-1, 0-1).
Mason Camden and Landon Gibbs each had a touchdown run to lead East Mills (3-2, 1-0).
