Annual health screening event set for Jan. 6

GRUNDY CENTER – Today’s health guidelines often mention the advice to “Know Your Numbers.” The annual Grundy County Health Screening event sponsored by the Grundy Center Wellness committee will give community members a chance to learn their key numbers for good health while learning about other important health screenings and visiting the newly expanded UnityPoint Clinic.

The 2018 Health Screening event is Saturday, January 6th, beginning at 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. In addition to low-cost blood screenings, participants can take advantage of other free health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, a prediabetes risk test, and body mass index (BMI) measurement. Community members may also receive information on health screening topics such as cancer screenings, bone density testing, immunizations, and more.

Blood screening tests available include: basic lab profile, which includes cholesterol and glucose levels, TSH (thyroid), Hemoglobin A1C, PSA (prostate health) and Vitamin D.

“We are offering the special Saturday morning screening so community members can begin the new year knowing the numbers that are key to staying on track with personal health goals,” says Crystal Petersen, Wellness Committee member. “Regular health screenings can provide information necessary for people to focus on lifestyle changes to help prevent chronic health conditions, manage a condition, improve health, or confirm that efforts to improve health are indeed working,” says Petersen.

UnityPoint Clinic Grundy Center Family Medicine will be open for refreshments and tours of its newly enlarged space adjacent to the hospital from 7:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m.
