Local sites announced for Oct. 4 Healthiest State Walk

GRUNDY CENTER – Did you know that walking is the easiest, most affordable, and accessible way to get physical activity in every day? The Healthiest State Annual Walk on Wednesday, October 4, is aiming for Iowans to “Walk More, Connect More” by walking for thirty minutes with friends, family, or co-workers. The Healthiest State Walk is part of the state of Iowa’s initiative to improve the health of its residents.

In Grundy Center, the walk will begin at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital at 12:00 noon., and will be held jointly with the monthly Walk with a Doc event, sponsored by the hospital and UnityPoint Clinic. Members of the public who wish to join the walk may meet at the hospital’s Entrance #3 on the west side of the hospital. The walk will continue to the Pioneer Trail.

In Reinbeck, the Healthiest State Walk will begin at 3:00 p.m., starting at Parkview Manor with walking on the trail near Parkview and Westview for thirty minutes.

In Dike, participants in the Healthiest State Walk are asked to meet on the football field at 1:35, and the walk will takes place around the High School Track, 1:40 2:10 p.m.

Thirty minutes of physical activity is proven to improve not only physical health but also social and emotional health. Grundy County Memorial Hospital encourages you to take this first step in building a healthy lifestyle by joining the walk most convenient for you! All walks are free, and no advance sign-up is needed.

Iowans who are not able to participate at the state-wide daytime walks are encouraged to take a 30-minute walk sometime during the day to support the goal of Iowa to becoming the healthiest state in the nation.
