Diabetes prevention, CPR among March health classes

GRUNDY CENTER – The public is invited to take advantage of the health education classes offered by Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) in March.

If your doctor has told you that you have prediabetes you are at increased risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. GCMH offers a Diabetes Prevention Program for those who have prediabetes and wish to prevent its progression. A free preview of the Diabetes Prevention Program will be offered on Thursday, March 16, 6:00 7:00 p.m. The preview provides an opportunity for people who are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes to learn how the prevention program works. There is no need for a referral to attend the introductory session or the full Diabetes Prevention Program, which will begin later in the month. The one-hour session is a good way to determine if the Diabetes Prevention Program is what you need to prevent diabetes from developing.

Just What the Dr. Ordered Nutrition for Diabetes is a free class on Monday, March 20, 5:30 7:00 p.m., for those who have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes or pre-diabetes. A registered dietitian-nutritionist will provide grocery shopping tips, meal preparation information, and other helpful ways to impact glucose levels.

A CPR and First Aid class for the general public will be offered on Tuesday, March 28, 4:30 p.m. The class is for non-health care professionals and in addition to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, includes use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Class size is limited, and there is a fee to cover materials.
