GRUNDY CENTER – The new ‘Pink Nose Warm Toes’ 5K race/1K walk took place at the 2016 Grundy County Wellness Fair Saturday. More than 40 people ran and walked the route through Grundy Center on a morning where wind chills hovered near zero. The race started and ended at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, site of the annual Wellness Fair.

Overall winners of the 5K were Griffin Hamann of Grundy Center with a time of 22:43, and Taylor Keitzer of Ames with a time of 23:33. In the Men’s division, age group winners were:

Drew Eilers, Jake Peterson, Nick Miller, Doug Clark, and Jerry Brown. In the Women’s division, winners were Sarah Faith Carson, Saylor Davis, Michelle Ferguson, Lynn Blythe, Betty Carson, Mary Steffinsmeier, and Sharlene Buskohl.

The 5K was sponsored by the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation to support its Community Health Grant program. A free 1K walk also attracted ten warmly dressed participants. “Our intent is to encourage people to get out and move no matter what the weather for optimum health and wellness,” says Crystal Petersen, GCMH nutrition and wellness manager. “The annual Wellness Fair attracted almost 200 people who are dedicated to learning about how to improve their health, and the outdoor activities were a great addition to this year’s event.” A detailed 5K winner’s list and times may be found at “http://www.grundycountyhospital.org”>www.grundycountyhospital.org.
