Helping children and families with grief

Cedar Valley Hospice will be offering a continuing education event, Helping Children and Families with Grief, from 10 a.m. noon on Tuesday, October 14 at Bridges Senior Living, Waterloo. The same presentation will be given from 10 a.m. noon on Tuesday, October 21 at the Grundy Memorial Hospital, Education Room, Grundy Center. Pre-registration is not required and the program is being offered at no cost. Nurses who attend the entire offering will receive 0.24 CEUs. Other guests will receive a certificate of attendance. Refreshments will be provided.

The program will provide participants with an understanding of how children process death and grief. Practical information will be given for supporting children such as how to explain death and include them in the family process.

The speaker will be Stacy Baranowski, Youth Services Coordinator at Cedar Valley Hospice. Stacy is certified as a Bereavement Facilitator by the American Academy of Bereavement and a Trauma Specialist by the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children.
