Food Fighters Club to Meet at Covenant
Beans Are a Good Source of Protein and Dietary Fiber
Beans aren’t just delicious, they’re a good source of protein and dietary fiber. Beans help protect your digestive system from cancer, and they work in a multitude of dishes.
Join registered dietitians from Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare at the February Food Fighters Club meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at Covenant Cancer Treatment Center. The Food Fighters Club meets monthly to discuss cancer fighting, healthy foods and beverages; cook new recipes; and discuss how some foods and beverages can reduce the side effects of treatment. February’s meeting will focus on the health benefits of beans and delicious ways you can incorporate them into your meals.
“With so many different varieties and flavors, beans are one of the most versatile vegetables available to us,” said Mary Steffensmeier, registered dietitian at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. “Beans are full of protein so they fill us up quickly, and beans serve as a natural dietary fiber useful to our digestive system.”
There is no charge to participate in the program however preregistration is required by calling 319.272.2265. The meetings will be held at Covenant Cancer Treatment Center at 200 E. Ridgeway Avenue in Waterloo. For a Food Fighters Club flyer, visitwww.covhealth.com/ctc.asp.
