GMG’s Dieleman, boys DMED relay team take gold at BGM Classic

BROOKLYN – The Green Mountain-Garwin boys track and field team took first place in two events at the BGM Bear Trax Classic held on Tuesday, April 22, at BGM High School in Brooklyn with the Wolverines finishing 10th out of 14 scoring teams.
Senior Grady Dieleman crossed the finish line first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 9.12 seconds, besting his nearest competitor in the B division by more than a minute and setting a season best.
GMG’s distance medley relay team of junior Rider Kupka, Dieleman, sophomore Ethan Klemesrud, and freshman Easton Sash also took gold with a time of 3 minutes, 59.74 seconds, defeating runner-up Keota by less than a second for the team’s season best.
Sash and Klemesrud also finished in the top-5 in the 800-meter run with third (2:15.89) and fourth (2:17.05) place finishes, respectively, while Dieleman took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.43).
On the field, junior Jay Bessman captured bronze twice with a throw of 40-feet, 3.25 inches in the shot put and a throw of 110-feet, 1 inch in discus.
The Wolverines racked up 57 points for a team finish of 10th. Iowa Valley took gold with 183 points, followed by Lynnville-Sully in second with 135 points and BGM in third with 117 points. Gladbrook-Reinbeck finished 11th with 49 points.
