GC/G-R soccer takes down Columbus

Gienger

The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer team is out to a 2-0 start after defeating Columbus Catholic 6-2 on Monday.

The team is looking to improve upon a 4-8 overall record from last season that saw them ousted from the 1A playoffs in the first round by Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.

GC/G-R returns the bulk of their offensive unit including last year’s leading scorers Ethan Gienger and Aiden Hunemiller.

On Monday against the Sailors, the GC/G-R boys kept up the pressure throughout the whole game outscoring Columbus Catholic 3-1 in both periods.

Leading scorers for GC/G-R were Gienger and Tyler Nolder who each put in two goals. Isaac Clark and Austin Betts were the other goal scorers.

On Wednesday the team traveled north to face North Fayette Valley and on Thursday evening will take on Belmond-Klemme at home.

Next week the GC/G-R boys will host Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
