Rebels take area wins into busy week ahead

Nick Tscherter pitched all seven innings and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck baseball team got back to .500 with a 12-5 win over BCLUW in Friday’s NICL West Division contest.

The Rebels scored in five of their seven at-bats, highlighted by a four-run fifth inning to take a commanding 11-5 advantage.

Luke Riffey led G-R with four hits while Keagan Giesking and Tscherter had three apiece.

Rebels split at Colo

The Rebels next took the diamond on Saturday for a tournament at Colo-NESCO. In game one, G-R got out paced by Pleasantville 12-1. Ethan Geinger took the loss for the Rebels, pitching four innings with six hits, seven earned runs and two strikeouts. Cody Gebel came on to close the final two innings, allowing four earned runs while also striking out two.

Pleasantville pitcher Jake De Joode pitched six strong innings, holding Gladbrook-Reinbeck to four hits while only walking one batter.

The Rebels bats came alive in the second game of the weekend as G-R took an 8-3 win over host Colo-NESCO with runs scored in all but two innings.

Gebel and Geinger led at the plate, each with two hits and two RBIs. Gebel went yard with for the team’s first home run of the season.

Also recording hits for the Rebels were Keagan Giesking, Nick Tscherter, Caleb Egesdal and Casey Knaack.

William Kiburis improved his pitching record to 2-1 with an 11-strikeout effort across six innings. In the win, Kiburis allowed two hits, two earned runs and four walks. Logan Giesking came on in the seventh to close, allowing no hits against four batters.

The Rebels took a 11-1 loss to East Marshall Monday, faced Sumner-Fredericksburg Wednesday and will wrap up the week at home against West Marshall Thursday and Kee and Janesville Saturday.
