WAVERLY – Amber Berendes racked up 17 points and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team bounced back from a season-opening loss with a convincing victory, 47-31, over Waterloo Columbus Saturday in the Holiday Classic at Wartburg College.

Leading 27-24 at halftime, G-R (1-1) outscored the Sailors 14-2 in the third to pull away. Hanna Christopher added six points, 10 rebounds and four steals, while Nicole Adair tallied eight points and five steals. Megan Oelschlager had six points and six boards, while Lauren Husmann corralled nine rebounds.

The Rebels return to NICL West Division Tuesday against Hudson in Reinbeck.
