Tama County District Court


A rural Toledo man was sentenced to terms of 25 years and five years in prison to be served consecutively on Dec. 5 in Tama County District Court in Toledo. The judgments were handed down by Judge Mitchell E. Turner. Robert John Thede Sr., 65, pleaded guilty to charges of distributing Schedule I or II controlled substance by an adult or possess with intent to distribute controlled substance to person(s) under the age of 18 and willful injury causing bodily injury on Nov. 22. Thede faced the drug charge following his arrest on Sept. 18, 2013, on charges of ongoing criminal conduct and drug distribution violations filed by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Bruce Rhoads. The willful injury charge was one of series of charges filed on Aug. 27, 2013, which had orginally included 1st degree kidnapping, domestic abuse, five counts of willful injury and incest. Also before Judge Turner: A guilty plea was entered on behalf of R.W. Trucking, Inc., rural Gladbrook, on a charge of failure to miantian Workers compensation Insurance. A $250 fine was suspended and the company was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. The charge was filed on Oct. 16 of this year and was based upon circumstance of Oct. 6, 2009, according to the court record. Kristina Lee Hoag, 36, rural Tama pleaded guilty to 2nd offense drunken driving. She was sentenced to 95 days in jail with all but seven days suspended, fined $1,875 and placed on supervised probation for two years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Hoag was charged on July 14 in the 500 block of spring Road by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Jacob Molitor.

Guilty plea, fine, agency filing charge(s)- Kyle Jerome Johnson, 49, rural Tama, deposit or throw litter on highway $100 plus court costs. Tama County Sheriff’s Office Jerry Duane Snook, 50, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to charges of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and 2nd offense drunken driving. For operating without consent he was sentenced to a suspended, two-year prison term, fined $625 and directed to pay any victim restitution. For 2nd offense drunken driving, Snook was sentenced to seven days in jail, fined $1,875 and directed to complete Drinking Drivers School. Snook was charged on Jan. 2, 2013, after striking with the vehicle he was operating a parked vehicle in the 100 block of West State Street. The charge was field by Toledo Police Officer Andrera Young. Betty Jean Buffalo, 74, rural Tama,, entered a written guilty plea to 1st offense drunken driving. she was sentenced to two days in jail, fined $1,250 and directed to complete Drinking Drivers school. Buffalo was charged on July 12 at Kwik Star on Business Highway 30 by Toledo Police Officer Dan Quigley. Edgar F. Hernandez, 28, Toledo, entered a written guilty plea to domestic abuse assault. He was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days already served, fined $65 and assessed court costs. Court records show Hernandez was charged on June 12, 2013, at the Meskwaki Hotel, rural Tama, after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the hair, put her in a headlock, forced her down and pushed her into an elevator. The charge was filed by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Scott Brammer. Buffy A. Rutledge, 41, Toledo, pleaded guilty to 5th degree criminal mischief. She was fined $65, assessed court court costs and directed to pay any victim restitution. Rutledge was charged on April 4 for allegedly throwing rocks at a vehicle causing between $200-$500 damage. The charge was field by Toledo Police Officer Derrick Fangman. Robert Patrick Nieman, 30, Tama, entered a written guilty plea to 2nd offense drunken driving. He was sentenced to 890 days in jail with all but seven was suspended, and fined $1,875. Nieman was charged at a U.S. Highway 30 Expressway- U.S. Highway 63 ramp on Nov. 1 by Iowa State Trooper Jared Rude. Adam Maurisio Shoemaker, 19, Tama, entered a written guilty plea to possession of marijuana. He received a deferred judgment, was placed on unsupervised probation and assessed a $315 civil penalty. He was charged on Sept. 8 at a residence in the 1400 block of Siegel by Tama Police. Christopher C. Engler, 35, Marshalltown, entered a written guilty plea to 3rd degree theft. He was fined $625 and ordered to pay victim restitution totaling $979 to Kwik Star, Toledo. Engler was charged with allegedly stealing $840 in cash, 24 packs of cigarettes valued at $137.50 and a rib sandwich valued at $1.49 from the convenience store where he was employed in the period between May 1 – June 29. The charge was filed by Toledo Police Officer Andrea Young. Gregory John Tuttle, 32, Cedar Rapids, pleaded guilty to 3rd degree burglary. He was sentenced to a suspended, five-year prison term, fined $750, placed on supervised probation for five years and directed to pay the probation enrollment fee. Tuttle was charged on June 6 for allegedly helping another person enter a shed in the 400 block of Olive street in Chelsea. The charge was filed by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Brian Randall. Before Judge Stephen B. Jackson Jr.: Michael Douglas Creger, 24, Waterloo, was sentenced on six charges of 3rd degree burglary. He entered guilt peas on Nov. 25. Creger received five-year prison terms on each charge, to be served concurrently and a suspended, $750 fine. He was charged following a series of burglaries at properties and businesses in Dysart by Dysart Police on May 25 and June 14. He was directed to pay restitution to the victims as follows: Debra Foss, Master Clipper $1,500; Jill Deklotz, Be Inspired $500; Sheri Guillot, Custom Crreations $2,244; Debra Roettger, Blacksmith Boutique $499; Robert Winter $1,520; and Deanna Campbell $400.
