Vaughn wins Vikings Punt, Pass & Kick Championship

Emily Vaughn is pictured with the First Place Punt, Pass and Kick Football. She was announced winner of the ten and eleven year old girls division during the Vikings football game in Minneapolis on November 30. Emily is a sixth grade student at GMG Elementary.

Emily Vaughn of Garwin brought home first place in the 10 and 11 year old NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Championship. She competed in Minneapolis at the Viking’s training facility on November 29. Emily was announced the winner during the during the Minnesota Vikings versus Carolina Panthers football game on November 30.

Emily had a total score of 207 feet 8 inches to put her in first place for the Vikings Championship. She is the daughter of Scott and Sherry Vaughn of Garwin and the grand-daughter of Jeanette Awes and Bruce Schnelle of Marshalltown. Great-grandma Eunice Pieper lives in Gladbrook.

The road to the championship began in September at the GMG Elementary School area competition. Emily advanced to the Sectionals in Decorah in October. She was one of the top four finishers of all sectional competitions for North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. She was one of 40 contestants advancing to the Team Championships.

The top four scorers from all of the NFL Team Championships will advance to an NFL Playoff game in January.
