Top honors awarded in Iowa State Fair FFA Sheep show

DES MOINES – Judges viewed 306 animals from 172 exhibitors competing for top honors in the FFA Market Lamb show held last Thursday, Aug. 10, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Champion Market Wether was awarded to Brock Bowman of Glidden-Ralston FFA, Glidden. Makenzie Rule of West Sioux FFA, Hawarden, won the Reserve Champion Market Wether.

Champion Market Ewe was awarded to Riley Walker of Webster City FFA, Webster City. Dylan Brader of Mediapolis FFA, Mediapolis, won the Reserve Champion Market Ewe.

On Friday, Aug. 11, the FFA Breeding Sheep show was held with 289 sheep shown by FFA exhibitors.

Riley Walker of Webster City FFA, Webster City, was awarded the Champion Commercial Ewe Lamb. Waylen Gemberling of South Central Calhoun FFA, Lake City, was awarded the Reserve Champion Commercial Ewe Lamb.

Addyson Lehman of West Liberty FFA, West Liberty, was awarded the Champion Commercial Yearling Ewe, and Jaedyn Condon of Manson Northwest Webster FFA, Manson, won Reserve Champion Commercial Yearling Ewe.

Tama County exhibitors who participated in both shows this year included Lilly Bru, a member of GMG FFA, and Kaylynn Murty, a member of South Tama County FFA. Bru received three blue ribbons during the Market Lamb show on Thursday. She placed second in her class on Friday during the Breeding Sheep show for which she was called back for the grand drive where she received another blue ribbon. Congratulations!
