Powderpuff Football GMG Homecoming By: Conner Stonewall Homecoming week is always filled with fun activities to do. This Wednesday, September 30, will be our Powderpuff game. It is always fun to watch and coach. This year, like many, it is the Senior and Junior girls versus the Sophomore and Freshman girls. The coaches are normally random football players from each grade. Senior and Junior players coach the upperclass girls and Sophomore and Freshman players coach the underclass girls. It is free admission with free drinks and hotdogs. Hope to see most of you there enjoying the game.

North Tama Takes 3 Against GMG By Chandler Kendall Thursday, September 24th, the Wolverines went to Traer to compete with the North Tama Redhawks in a 3 set match in volleyball. The game started off great with Blaire Sonderleiter (4) serving 10 straight serves in a row. The GMG girls lost the serve 10-0 and the Redhawks had a comeback and nearly tied the game up. When GMG got the serve back, North Tama had an immediate side out with a push to the deep corner. With this, they took the serve and crawled into the lead. GMG fell behind 11-17 but fought through the whole set. They ended up taking the loss with the score of 23-25. The second and third set were taken by North Tama with scores of 18-25 and 15-25. The girls were struggling to stay positive with their starting setter, Katie Airey (9), out with an ankle injury. Coach Bauder had Kaela Gruen (6) take her place in the first set, but then subbed in freshman, Kelsey Vaverka (13) for the rest of the night. The girls played the best they could under the circumstances, but ended up losing the match, setting their record to 7-10 on the year.

Tough Loss By GMG to 1st ranked BGM By Dakota Weishaubt Last Friday BGM and GMG took to the field at 7:00. Top ranked BGM, first in the state, took the “W” from GMG. The score was 0-64 for BGM at halftime, but the Wolverines held them to 17 points in the second half. Ending the game with a score of 81-0. The GMG boys showed improvement and heart. THe boys were upset, but know to keep their heads up for next week. One thing the coaches have preached all season is take it one week at a time, one play at a time, and one game at a time. GMG looks forward to playing North Mahaska next weekend.

Merica’ Monday Garrett Groth Monday, September 28th was the first day of homecoming week at GMG. The dress-up day for Monday was “Mercia” Monday. There was many very good outfits. Many students were decked out in red, white, and blue. There were many different examples of flags. Some people wore clothing that looked like the flag; some people carried the flag. Kaitlyn Gill dressed as a soldier. Looking at all of the outfits made a person patriotic. The GMG student body did a nice job of dressing-up.
