Brant crowned NICL champ in 400-hurdles; picks up four all-conference honors

LE GRAND – Following her sterling performance at the North Iowa Cedar League championships Thursday, May 7, Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior Kennedy Brant has more than proven her standing as one of the best high school track athletes in Iowa this year.

In total, Brant picked up four all-conference honors at the 15-team Mega Meet which awards all-conference to the top six individuals and the top three relays. She crossed the finish line in first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 4.49 seconds, nearly three seconds faster than her nearest competitor, Jesup’s Sara Mead.

In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Brant earned a silver-medal finish with a time of 15:84, just behind Mead’s 15.45.

Brant also earned all-conference honors for her performance in the girls’ high jump where she placed third with a leap of 5-4. Grundy Center’s Allison Koch was first (5-6) followed by Dike-New Hartford’s Mila Syhlman (5-6).

Rounding out her all-conference accolades Thursday evening, Brant took fifth in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.21.

Also at East Marshall, G-R sophomore Ryanne White was 14th in the long jump (11-7.5), while the Lady Rebels’ 4×100-meter relay of White, Emelyne Le Strat, Cadence Danner-Roderick, and Katelyn Monaghan placed 15th with a 1:07.34 finish.

At the 15-team meet, G-R girls scored 28 points total – all courtesy of Brant – for a two-way tie for 13th alongside Sumner-Fredericksburg. Grundy Center won the girls meet with 116 points followed by Dike-New Hartford (100), and Aplington-Parkersburg (74).
