REINBECK – After pulling down her 1,000th career point earlier this month, Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Elly Sieh recently claimed another accolade by setting her school’s single-game scoring record with a mighty 40 points during the Class 1A No. 4 Rebels’ NICL 74-26 wipeout of Sumner-Fredericksburg (6-9) here on Thursday, Jan. 22. The senior point guard’s tally that evening included six 3-pointers. She also had two assists, four rebounds, three steals, and one block. For her efforts, the media outlet High School On SI selected her as one of their nominees for ‘Iowa High School Athlete of the Week’ for the week of Jan. 19-24, 2026. The weekly poll is meant to be “a fun, lighthearted way for fans to show support for their favorite athletes and teams” with the goal of celebrating all the players, per the outlet. “The polls are open to everyone and are simply a way to build excitement and community around high school sports. Unless we specifically announce otherwise, there are no prizes or official awards for winning. The real purpose is to highlight the great performances of every athlete included in the poll.” As of press time (Tuesday, Jan. 27), Sieh was in third place against a dozen other student-athletes. Voting closes this Sunday, Feb. 1. Ahead of G-R’s NICL clash with Class 2A No. 10 Grundy Center (13-1) at home this past Tuesday evening, Sieh was No. 2 in the league for total points scored on the season with 264, behind only fellow senior teammate Kennedy Brant with 278.
