No. 4 G-R girls overtake Jesup for NICL win; Brant continues to dominate
JESUP – The Class 1A No. 4 Rebel girls scored 19 points in the third quarter to overtake the J-Hawks and eventually notch their 10th NICL conference win on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck defeated Jesup (6-6) 51-44 for the road win after tying the J-Hawks, 10-10, to end the first quarter and then falling behind 23-21 at the half.
G-R came back in the third, outscoring Jesup by 11 points and securing the lead. Both teams put up 13 points in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough for the J-Hawks to overtake the dominant Rebels. G-R’s stats were not available in time for publication.
Heading into this past week, the Lady Rebels were 11-2 (10-1) on the season with their only losses to non-conference Class 2A No. 4 Maquoketa Valley and Class 2A No. 6 Denver. As of press time, senior forward Kennedy Brant was No. 2 in the NICL and No. 3 across all classes for rebounds with 171. She was also No. 1 in the conference for blocks (42), field goals made (95), and field goal percentage (58.3%), while simultaneously holding the No. 2 spot for points scored with 224 – behind only Oelwein senior McKinzie See with 229.
