Rebel boys pull down narrow victory over J-Hawks
JESUP – The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team marked the program’s third win this season with a narrow 40-39 victory over the Jesup J-Hawks while on the road Tuesday, Jan. 13.
The winless J-Hawks turned the ball over 19 times during the game to the Rebels’ 15, while amassing three fouls to the Rebels’ 13.
Senior Trevor Mathern led G-R with 12 points and eight rebounds. He also had two assists, three steals, and the team’s sole block. Senior Hudson Clark added 10 points plus seven of the Rebels’ 16 total steals. Freshman Laken Thesing came off the bench to contribute nine points – all 3-pointers – and pull down four rebounds.
Heading into this past week, G-R was 3-9 (2-8) on the season. They were scheduled to face a string of NICL teams, including AGWSR (3-11) on Tuesday, Sumner-Fredericksburg (4-9) on Thursday, and Oelwein (0-12) tonight, Friday, Jan. 23. The Rebels’ other wins this season include non-conference North Tama and AGWSR.
