G-R girls grapplers compete at Bubba Randles Winter Classic
CEDAR RAPIDS – The Union/G-R girls wrestling team traveled to Cedar Rapids Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, for Prairie’s Bubba Randles Winter Classic which featured 26 teams.
Rebels wrestling with Union this season who competed at Prairie included juniors Jasmine Basset (110) and Ella Wagner (155). Basset lost both her matches, including her first round match to Burlington’s Grace Navarree by fall in just over a minute; she was pinned in her second match as well by Williamsburg’s Anya Rivera.
Wagner also dropped two matches at Prairie, including to Cedar Rapids Washington’s Sarah Novak by fall in 2:29 and to Prairie’s Marlee Peyton by fall in 1:45.
Union/G-R’s only points of the day were earned by Knights senior Mya Ellsworth (170) who earned a second round win by 7-5 decision over Cedar Rapids Washington’s Anika Meggers before losing to Center Point-Urbana’s Tara Crowley, ranked No. 5 in Class 1A by IAWrestle, in the third round by pinfall.
Overall, Class 2A No. 7 Linn-Mar took first with 184 points followed by the 2A No. 9 hosts who tied South Tama for second with 176 points, Williamsburg in fourth with 110 points, and Cedar Rapids Kennedy in fifth with 108 points.
Following the winter break, Union/G-R will be back on the mats at the BGM Holiday Brawl on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, in Brooklyn.
