Bobcat swimmers slam Lincoln, 126-57
DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving squad won 11 of 12 events en route to a 126-57 rout of Des Moines Lincoln in the Tuesday, Oct. 7 Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet.
The Bobcats (8-1, 5-1) won all but the final race and even swept a pair of events along the way. Marshalltown claimed the top three spots in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
Leia Hernandez earned one of her three event victories by hitting the wall first in the 50 free, clocking in at 25.61 seconds. Drea Ceren (27.79) and Libby Meyer (28.21) joined in the top-three sweep.
In the 100 free, Ceren captured the top spot in 1:01.58, followed by Adele Beek (1:01.89) and Meyer (1:03.29).
Hernandez was part of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. She was joined by Ceren, Rachel Case and Emma Case in the 200 medley relay (2:05.73) to open the dual, while it was GMG’s Addi Elmore, Beek and Rachel Case setting the stage for Hernandez to anchor the 200 free relay to victory in 1:47.19.
Emma Case also won the 100 butterfly (1:07.24) and the 100 backstroke (1:11.23), while Rachel Case took the 100 breaststroke (1:22.19). Elmore won the 200 freestyle (2:12.41), Maisie Gummert claimed the 200 individual medley (2:38.47) and the 500 freestyle (5:56.10), and Harlie Thatcher claimed the diving competition (202.20).
