GARWIN – Last Friday afternoon in the high school gymnasium in Garwin, Green Mountain-Garwin senior Reese Dieleman signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and basketball careers next year with the Mount Mercy Mustangs in Cedar Rapids.
Dieleman experienced a whirlwind of a senior season under second-year head coach Mick Long with the 1A team absorbing the loss of two starters plus a top-6 player.
“Reese played the four-spot until she had some players leave and then she was the point guard which was the most amazing thing I’ve had a player do in all my 20-plus years of coaching,” Long told the newspaper following Dieleman’s signing ceremony. “She did everything I asked and more – and she did it well.”
While Dieleman is undecided on a specific career she plans to major in business at Mount Mercy.
Those in attendance for Dieleman’s signing included (front row, l-r) her parents Doug and Melissa Dieleman and Mount Mercy women’s basketball assistant coach Shareece Burrell; as well as (back row, l-r) Coach Long, her younger brother Grady, older sister Mable Steepleton, and 18-month-old nephew Sampson Steepleton.

Dieleman was a T-R All-Area Girls Basketball third team pick this season. She was the second highest scorer for the Wolverines averaging 10.6 points per game, while also contributing 52 assists and 91 rebounds.
CONGRATULATIONS, Reese, from all of us at Tama-Grundy Publishing!
