No. 4 Rebels roll into break with 6-0 mark

REINBECK – Zach Pierce and Joe Smoldt both scored 21 points and Cameron Clark chipped in 14 more as the Class 1A No. 4-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ basketball team pulled away from winless Denver on Saturday for a 76-52 victory.

The Rebels take an unblemished 6-0 record into the holiday break, propelled by a dominant third quarter in which they outscored the visiting Cyclones 25-6. Denver (0-7) was within 31-25 at the half before G-R put the game out of reach in the NICL cross-divisional contest.

Pierce posted a season-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. Smoldt, now averaging 24.3 points per game this season, tallied seven assists, five rebounds and five steals in the win.

Colton Dinsdale contributed six points, three assists and three steals, and Josh Cooley made a pair of 3-pointers for six points as well.

Denver was led by Blaine Schneider’s 11 points.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck returns to action on Jan. 6, entertaining Grundy Center in NICL West Division play.
