30 Years Ago November 17, 1989 Approximately 175 past and present Gladbrook Jaycees enjoyed an evening at their 25th anniversary celebration. Jolene Denbow and Mike Casebolt received the coveted Governor’s Leadership Award at the 1989 Iowa Community Betterment Recognition Day, October 28, held in Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Slingluff are please to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Amy Slingluff, to Randy Wrage, son of Cecil Wrage and Joann Wrage. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Hulst are the proud parents of their third child, a daughter, Tessa Denae Hulst, born October 29. She is welcomed home by a sister, Nicole, 7, and a brother, Weston, 4. Linda Kay Garrett and David Thomas Kuhl were united in marriage on October 21. Parents of the couple are Lee and Jean Garrett of Marshalltown and Audrey Kuhl and the late Thomas Kuhl of rural Beaman. Anna Dahms, 94, Gladbrook, passed away of respiratory failure on November 12 at the Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer. 40 Years Ago November 23, 1979 Dr. David Hill began his dental practice in Gladbrook on Thursday, November 15, in the clinic of Dr. LaTendresse and Associates. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schadt, Washburn, Iowa, became the parents of a baby girl, Angela Marie, on November 20. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Schadt, Lincoln, and Mr. and Mrs. Burger of Shelby, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McKinney celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Steven and Karen Boege of rural Gladbrook, became the parents of their first child, a daughter, Melissa Lynn, born November 17. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Kunch, Jr., of Garwin and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Boege of Gladbrook. 50 Years Ago November 14, 1969 Miss Beth Ann Feller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Feller of Grundy Center, became the bride of Robert W. Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jens Thompson, of rural Gladbrook, on October 24. A 10-year-old pheasant hunter, Kendall Harms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delvin Harms, is in satisfactory condition after being wounded by shotgun fire, which the shot struck him in his left forearm, last Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gethmann of Gladbrook, announce the engagement of their daughter, Nancy Jean, to Donald A. Farnsworth, of Riceville. 60 Years Ago November 13, 1959 Sixteen football letter winners were announced Tuesday night by Coach Chuck Neubauer at the annual Football Father and Son Banquet. Pheasant season will open on Saturday.
70 Years Ago November 11, 1949 Miss Marilyn Irene Siemens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Siemens of Gladbrook, became the bride of Merlyn E. Eggers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Eggers, Gladbrook, on November 6. Louis Niedermann received severe burns about the face and hands Sunday, when he took the cap off the radiator of his tractor, letting the steam escape. The first boar sold at the annual Lawrence Putney registered boar sale Saturday night, was bought for $195. Mr. and Mrs. Art Koester are the parents of a son, Paul Art, born Thursday of last week. 80 Years Ago November 10, 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Sienknecht are the parents of a baby boy born, which was born on Thursday. Emil Wrage, Gladbrook farmer, has just reported one of the best corn yields in this vicinity for entry in the 1939 National Dekalb Corn Growing Contest. Wrage’s official contest yield of 122.46 bushels of corn was entered. 90 Years Ago November 14, 1929 The town of Clutier was the only town in the county to celebrate Armistice Day. Dean W. Mueller, of Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois, in a personal letter to the editor of the Northern states that Louis Dreessen of Gladbrook, is an honor student for the first six-week term of the semester, having earned high grades in all subjects.
