Pastor’s Corner Rev. Gideon Gallo, Administrative Pastor, Gladbrook United Methodist Church Gladbrook, Iowa-“Worry”
“Worry” “He (God) who watches over you…will neither slumber nor sleep.” -Psalm 121:3,4- Do you worry a lot? What do you worry about? Is worrying wrong? Who would deny that there is plenty to worry about-economically, politically, our health, the domestic problems including feeding the hungry and a lot of other things. Do you worry a lot? Or “It is your nature to worry” because you believe in your heart, “that is the way God made you.” “I just can’t help it,” people say, and “I am not always known by the smoothness of my brow.” I must admit that some many have more of biological tendency to worry than do others, but can we put the blame on our genetic code to let us off the hook? Jesus had a lot to say about this subject in the Sermon of the mount (Matthew 5 to 7) where He talked about the birds which are fed by God. He chided the disciples for worrying about their clothes and food. In the passage Jesus considered worry to be wrong because of the power of God’s provision for His children. Paul did not mince words either when he said, “Do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). So, if God says I should not worry, then there must be a solution or a way out to this problem. Simply put, it is learning to put into God’s hands what you cannot change, and learning more about God gives you confidence that God is more than able to enable you with courage and boldness to face and take care the storms in your life. Remind and claim upon yourself that God who creates our world neither slumbers nor sleeps. He watches over you and He never fails!
