Before Judge Christopher L. Bruns in Tama County District court in Toledo:

Jeramy James Clement, 43, Dysart, admitted violation of terms of probation. He was sentenced to two years in prison with the term to run concurrently with a sentence imposed in Iowa County. Clement was cited in a probation violation report for possessing methamphetamine and violating a no contact order. Clement received suspended prison sentences on July 7, 2016 on charges of tampering with a witness and on dec. 6, 2016, for 3rd degree theft. Rosendo Gomez-Reyes, 38, Tama, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of tampering with records. He was sentenced to serve 179 days in jail with credit for any time already sentenced fined and assessed court costs totaling $2,154. He was ordered to report to the sheriff to schedule a surrender time and to pay sheriff’s fees as later assessed. Gomez-Reyes was originally charged with identify theft over $1,000 but less than $10,000 on March 23. He allegedly was working at a Tama business under a false name and Social Security number and accused of earning $7,296. The charge was filed by Tama Police Officer Brandon Boldt. Richard John Horton, 26, rural Tama, entered a written guilty pleas to charges of 2nd offense drunken driving and driving while barred. He was fined $1,825 for drunken driving and $625 on the driving while barred charge. The fine for driving while barred was suspended. He was also assessed court costs and surcharge totaling $796. Horton was charged on July 6 following a roll-over crash on West Ross Street by Toledo Police Officer Nathan Wunn. Austin William Phinney, 18, Tama, received deferred judgments on charges of eluding / attempting to elude while participating in a felony while driving drunk or controlled substance violation and 1st offense drunken driving. Civil penalties totaling $1,500 were suspended and he was assessed a total of $130 in court costs. He must posses a valid driver’s license to drive a vehicle. He was placed on supervised probation to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services and to pay a $300 supervisory fee. According to court records Phinney was charged on Aug. 4 after a 20-minute -long pursuit before he ran into a Tama County Sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle. The charges were field by Tama Police Officer Neil Frizzell. Terrell Aloazo Spencer, 25, Marshalltown, admitted being in contempt of court. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for any item already served. He is allowed to serve the time in Black Hawk County if of both Tama and Black Hawk County sheriffs approve. He was accused in a probation violation report of failing to report for appointments with his probation officer, missing appointments at Pathways behavioral Services and covering up a probation violation committed by another probationer. Spencer was originally sentenced on Dec. 22, 2015, on a Tama Police charge for 3rd degree burglary.

Before Judge Jason D. Bessler: Christopher Lee Cungtion Jr. 26, Cedar Rapids,, entered Alford pleas to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and driving while barred. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt but is a recognition on the part of the defendant enough evidence exists to likely obtain a conviction in court. He was sentenced to suspended terms of two years in prison on each count with the sentences to run concurrently. Fines of $625 on each count were suspended and court costs of $140 assessed. Cungtion was placed on probation to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services and directed to pay the enrollment fee. He must also pay any victim restitution to be determined. Cungtion was accused in County Attorney Trial Information of attempting to run over a person with a vehicle and driving the vehicle while barred.

Joshua Cade Steggall, 37, Ely, Iowa, entered a written guilty plea to a charge of 3rd degree theft. He received a deferred judgment. A $625 civil penalty was suspended and he was assessed $223 court costs. He was placed on supervised probation to the Department of Correctional Services and directed to pay a $300 supervisory fee. Steggall was charged on Nov. 25 after being accused of stealing two televisions and a skull piggy bank containing over $100 in change from a residence in Clutier. The chagre was field by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Trevor Killian. Joseph Thomas Aneweer, 40, Marshalltown, entered a written plea of guilty o a chagre of child endangerment in a plea agreement. He was fined and assessed court costs totaling $943 and received a suspended two-year prisaon sentence. He was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services and directed to pay a $300 supervisor fee. According to the court record Aneweer was originally charged with child endangerment- bodily injury at a residence in Montour on Oct. 18. He was alleged to have tied up an 11-year-old with zip ties “trying to teach a lesson and trying to show him what jail was like.” The charge was field by Tama county Deputy Sheriff Joseph Quandt.
