Grant provided by Farm Credit Services of America Working Here Fund for Agriculture Education MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA – Tama County Agriculture Extension District received a $2,000 grant for technology. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund. Tama County Agriculture Extension District will use the Working Here Fund grant to purchase 6 iPads and accessories. The students will use the iPads to take their annual Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification program, they will be used as part of the Master Gardener program, and for use in the 4-H program. “The project will fill the gap that exists for youth, volunteers and families who have limited access to technology and on-line services and systems,” said Cheryl Bruene, county extension director. “The YQCA certification teaches youth proper livestock handling, nutrition, health, transport and withdrawal requirements to help insure a safer food supply. The Master Gardeners engage in the production of local fruits and vegetables for home use and/or sale in Farmer’s Markets.” The iPads will be put into use this fall for students to have immediate access to complete their YQCA certification and enroll into the 4-H and nomination of livestock. “We value the opportunity to support an organization such as Tama County Agriculture Extension District, which shares FCSAmerica’s passion to serve the future of agriculture,” said Cheryl Mannetter, vice president of retail operations at FCSAmerica’s Marshalltown office. Tama County Agriculture Extension District is one of 78 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the third quarter of 2018. FCSAmerica awarded $120,625 during the latest grant cycle ending September 30, 2018.
