Message From Our Mayor

Fall is coming in full force – night time temperatures down to 40 and a forecast of rain most of this week. For those of you out of state readers, September was the rainiest ever. We set all time records of rain fall this past month. It really shows when all of our farmers started harvest. You can get stuck in the mud anywhere – top of the hill, side of the hill and any draw you have to cross. I was stuck 6 or 7 times helping Craig chop sileage and so far combining beans for two days I had to back out of wet spots twice. It will be a long fall. Gladbrook is Alive and Growing with the opening of two new businesses here in town. First, the Gladbrook Bowling Alley has been purchased by a group of investors with Roger Taylor being the new manager. Roger and crew have totally redone the inside of the building and restaurant. It’s bright, clean and very eye appealing. Fall leagues are off and running making for a lot of cars on Main St. Roger says there is still room for more teams and bowlers both male and female so if you would like to bowl stop in and talk to Roger anytime. Roger has totally repainted the restaurant and has a very good sandwich and pizza menu. Lots of choices. If you like taco salad, try one but don’t do it alone. It’s big and you will need help getting it gone. My favorite so is the Swiss mushroom burger. “Bones”, the head cook, makes a great one. We thank Roger and his wife, investors and crew for choosing Gladbrook to invest the time and money in. We all welcome you and wish you the best of luck. Next, the new Gladbrook Family Pharmacy is going to open this week. Tim Madsen, Rph of Toledo has built a new store between the old fire station and the Gladbrook Clinic. It’s a beautiful building and a great addition to Gladbrook’s main street. Tim says they will have a person on duty full time and will be able to fill all of your drug needs and have home deliveries. I have been in the new store and it has about any over the counter drug item you might need along with many health needs. Come in and talk to the new pharmacist about your needs. Thank you Tim for choosing Gladbrook to grow your business. We welcome you and your crew to our town! New Century Farms Services in the northwest corner of town has purchased the land next to them from the city. They will be building a new office there. This works well with the new storage building that they built a couple of years ago. This will be a very nice addition to there business and also to the town. Thank you FS for choosing our town as a place to grow your business. This next Saturday October 6 there will be a sale of all the surplus furniture and equipment left in our Gladbrook school. Terri Luehring and Jackie Stevenson have organized the sale and with the help of many volunteers, they have moved everything to the new gym. This is a tag sale with everything being priced. All the money is to go to the Gladbrook Crayon Corner. Come and look around and buy anything you need or don’t need. Both Terri and Jackie have put in a lot time on this project. Join me in thanking them when you see them. Congratulations to Joseph Smith on winning the Iowa Horseshoe pitching tournament again this year and also to Becky Thoms Fevold on being inducted into the Draft Horse Hall of Fame. High honors and congratulations to both of you. On October 2 of this week you town council will be in court trying to get the three stores owned by Jerry Paustian cleaned up. Many of you have been after your council and me to get this mess taken care of. I will keep you informed on this project.
