Depending upon how much more rain falls this week, Tama County roads appeared to not have suffer extensively so far, Lyle Brehm, county engineer, reported to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning, Sept. 3. He said he recorded just under 10 inches of rain at his Dysart area home by Monday. In Toledo just shy of five inches were reported overnight on Friday. (See official weather observer Randy Cooper’s report- Page 2.) Brehm said depending upon what lies ahead on terms of more rain, he did not expect at this point the rains would be classed a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) event for the county. He said he hopes it will only turn out to be a training exercise for the road department. While flash flooding did cover some roadways for a time after heavy rains over the Labor Day weekend, concern was most focused on two bridges, Brehm said. A stop sign has been put in place with one-way traffic on a bridge on S Avenue southwest of Clutier. Brehm said he expects the bridge to remain restricted while a further evaluation of it is made. A second bridge on Tama County Road V-18 located about one ando ne-half miles south of Iowa Highway 8 has a hole which developed on the north side which is undermining the pavement. Gravel is being placed in the spot until a permanent solution is determined, Brehm said. In business Tuesday the supervisors: •approved a new two-building hog confinement operation to be built by WFC Farms LLC., in Lincoln Township southwest of Lincoln. Department of Natural Resources requirements have been met for the project. John Andersen, representing WFC Farms, said contacts had bene made with neighbors concerning the project which Supervisors Dan Anderson said he believes is an important part of the process. •approved a new 28E agreement with the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center at Eldora which adds Buchanan County to the service area to the service area. It is a secure facility and now will serve Tama and 26 other counties. •approved the annual Tax Increment Financing Report prepared by Tama County Auditor Laura Kopsa and her office. It is a report on the 2013 Tama County Vienna Wind Farm urbal renewal project for which property tax funds generated are being used to repay a road improvement projects in the county. The report shows a total of $10,685,709 taxable value of the wind farm. Improvements totaling $7,160,00 of interest of $1,370,290 make up the financing. A total of $96,836 of county debt service funds werte used to supplement the 2017-18 payment on the loan which matures in 2032. •approved weekly claims totaling $112,720.
