The City of Garwin Fire Department has received a $7,500 grant for fire department and ambulance building updates. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund.
The City of Garwin Fire Department will use the Working Here Fund Grant to update their new building facility. The building will house both the fire department and the ambulance department. The building updates will include insulation, interior walls, larger doors, furnaces for heating and floor drain pits.
“With a newer building, the general monthly costs will be shared by both the ambulance and fire department, freeing up their budgets so they can use it to update other necessary items,” said Lori Speck, city clerk for the city of Garwin.
“We understand the importance of keeping our communities safe and appreciate the efforts of the City of Garwin Fire Department,” said Cheryl Mannetter, a vice president of retail operations in FCSAmerica’s Marshalltown office.
The City of Garwin Fire Department is one of 12 organizations to receive an expanded Working Here Fund grant. FCSAmerica awarded each organization up to $10,000 for a total of $71,000 to support projects focused on agricultural education, hunger and nutrition, young and beginning producers or essential services and rural disaster relief.
