Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese
Sarah Keahna from the Meskwaki Settlement requested from the Tama county Board of Supervisors, a road closure for a run/walk event in October. The Meskwaki Nation is planning a fun run for Domestic Violence Awareness on Friday, October 28, 2016, and have requested a temporary closure for a portion of 340th Street west of U.S. H ighway 63 to facilitate the event. The Tama County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution directing 340th Street between U.S. Highway 63 and 1836 340th Street to be closed on October 28th from 7:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. The Tama County Road department will put signs up for this event. Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, says the road department has now received two new trucks. Brehm had one of the new trucks brought to the Administration Building so supervisors could see the truck and all the equipment that comes with them. Considering the prices for a new pickup truck, supervisors agreed the Heavy Duty trucks purchased were a very good purchase. Brehm says the road department will be working on a bridge north west of Toledo on Tuesday, removing the deck off a bridge and reinforcing the base of the bridge, hopefully having the repairs done yet this week. Brehm says the road crew has been busy cleaning ditches. Two more Law Enforcement contracts gained approval by the Supervisors. The City of Montour’s contract with the Tama County Sheriff’s department was for $3000.00 a year, and the City of Gladbrook’s contract is for $46.15 an hour for up to 110 hours a month. Claims for the past week came to $461,403.62. This included the two new trucks for the road department.
