Letter to the Editor-Sash

Our Gladbrook Reinbeck School Board has done it again. Fifteen months after we gave them the petition to dissolve, they have decided to scrap the whole thing. This decision could have been made in the first 30-60 days instead of wasting everyone’s time for fifteen months. It seems that the school board has decided that the people down south are not smart enough to know what they are signing and we don’t know how to sign our own names – instead we signed a lot of fake signatures. And it seems it is the responsibility of the people up north to protect us from our own lack of ability to think for ourselves. So they took it upon themselves to scrap the whole petition. It took fifteen months after the petition was filed in accordance with state law to make this decision and that was after the committee, which the board appointed, worked several months to come up with a good plan as required by law. All the surrounding schools spent a good deal of time working on what they would accept and after several committee meetings which were held to inform both communities, our GR school board in all their wisdom has decided to just ignore the wishes of a legal number of the school district residents who had signed a legal petition and scrap the whole thing. Thanks for looking out for those of us down here who are not capable of thinking for ourselves. One would think that if you people dislike us so much and feel we are incapable of making any decisions that you would be glad to get rid of us instead of having us lower the standard of you fine folks up north. If this letter offends some of you, so be it. We feel offended by your actions too.

PS – How about another wise decision – they closed the Gladbrook school because 16 kids weren’t enough in the classroom but the GR kindergarten class which is now located in Reinbeck has 23 kids with 2 teachers and 2 aides.
