Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

Monday morning the Tama county Board of Supervisors approved a resolution for a public hearing for the sale of the Tama County Home. A hearing on the proposed sale of the Tama County Home will take place on September 12th, at 10:00 a.m.. This will be in the Tama County Supervisors room, the public is welcome. The high bid for the property has come from Billy Dreesman for $17,600 and accepted at the last supervisors meeting. State law requires a public hearing before the sale is final. Jane Underwood, representative of Bernie Lowe & Associates Insurance, was present to give an end of the fiscal year update. Underwood says claims are down from last year. Mindy Benson, EMA/911 coordinator was present to receive recognition from the National Weather Service. A large sign was presented to Benson which stated Tama County Emergency Management, STORM READY, National Weather Service. Pastor Kenny Mervin requested the use of the Tama County Courthouse lawn for bible reading. The Tama Meskwaki Celebration Assembly church was approached about heading up “Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon”. This has been presented to all 99 counties in the state of Iowa. Governor Terry Branstad has signed a proclamation for the Bible reading marathon, and encourages all Iowans to join in the historical Reading marathon which will take place beginning June 3 and ending July 3, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Branstad is encouraging all individuals and families in Iowa to read through the Bible on a daily basis each year. The Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon, a historical event taking place across Iowa that will give us the opportunity to publicly declare the inspired Word of God from Genesis to Revelation. This will lay a foundation in Iowa for 2016 and beyond, honor God’s Holy Word, and proclaim His Word in Tama County The marathon will be held on September 6th through September 13 and will start at 8:00 a.m. each day and end at 6:00 p.m. This will be in the courthouse lawn at 100 West High Street , Toledo, on the Toledo Bandstand on the East side. This group needs approximately 40 team captains to b on site for 2-hour shifts and about 320 individuals to participate to fill in about 80 hours of 15-minute time slots. Individuals are welcome to fill more than one 2 hour shift. County Engineer Lyle Brehm was present for a road report stating work started today on highway E-49. E-49 will be closed from E Avenue through F Avenue in order to replace a plastic liner in a culvert with concrete. This section will most likely be closed all week. Claims approved for payment for the past week came to $112,796.87.
