Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

Monday morning the Tama County Board of Supervisors, Larry Vest, Kendall Jordan and Dan Anderson, opened the sealed bids for the sale of the old Tama County Home building and land. Two bids were received. The low bid was from Lawrence Husak, Toledo for $5000, and the high bid was from Billy Dreesman for $17,600, Toledo. Supervisors voted to accept the high bid from Dreesman. It is necessary for the supervisors to hold a public hearing on the sale. Since the public hearing was not on the agenda this week, the date of the hearing will be set at the next Supervisors meeting on Monday, August 15. A resolution was approved stating the Region 6 Housing Trust Fund in 2016 can apply for $259,092 of Iowa Finance Authority State Housing Trust Funds if the Region 6 Housing Trust Fund secures at least $64,773 of local contributions. The funds are allocated by the Region 6 Housing to each county on a per capita basis. Region 6 Housing Trust Fund is requesting a match from Tama County of $15,967, for a share of the state grant in the amount of $48,528. The fund can be used for qualified rental and owner occupied housing improvement activities for income qualified people across Tama County. ALL APPLICANTS MUST HAVE ANNUAL INCOMES UNDER 80% of the county median as determined by HUD, with at least thirty percent being reserved for households under 30% of the county median. Grant projects in Tama County completed from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016 were as follows: Toledo 6 homes at $71,313; Tama 5 homes at $65,562; Dysart 1 home at $800; Traer 1 home at $27,405; Gladbrook 1 home at $17,800; Garwin 1 home at $17,800; and Clutier 1 home at $7280, for a total of $198,935 and 16 homes. First Time Homebuyer and Veterans Homeownership Assistance Improvement Grant for 2015-2016 was for three homes at 407 Johnston Street in Gladbrook for $37,500; 605 Blaine Street in Dysart for $35,891; and 609 6th Street in Traer for $17,405 for a total of $100,796. This included down payment assistance, radon mitigation and housing rehabilitation. Engineer Lyle Brehm was present for a weekly road report. Brehm says he has not received any paper work back yet on the Chambers Ford Bridge, saying they are pretty slow. Brehm also told supervisors that Highway E49 between Tama and Montour will be closed next Monday, August 15., for work near the Floyd Manfull home. Brehm says the Board of Supervisors is empowered under authority of the Iowa Code to determine the speed limit of any secondary road is greater than is reasonable and proper under the conditions existing and may determine and declare a reasonable and proper speed limit. The current closure of the bridge on US Highway 63 over Twelve Mile Creek has caused increased traffic on P Avenue and 155th Street. Brehm then asked for a resolution to set a speed limit of 35 miles per hour on P Avenue commencing at 160th Street and proceeding north to Highway D65 and 35 miles per h our on 155th Street from P Avenue proceeding east to US Highway 63. This speed limit will be effective immediately and terminating upon the reopening of US63 from 160th Street to Highway D65, and appropriate signs will be erected at the locations described above. Board members had a request for a Blue Ribbon sign to be place on the Courthouse Lawn. Supervisors granted this permission stating they supported the Blue Ribbon Sign which is stating Blue Lives Matter. In other business Dennis Walters with Colonial Life, an Insurance Company, gave a presentation of what his company can do for an organization such as Tama County. Claims for the past week came to $340,055.71. The next meeting of the Tama County Board of Supervisors is Monday, August 15th at 9:30 A.M.
