Each year “100 Iowa Great Nurses” are honored. Tama County Supervisors have been notified that of the one hundred current honorees, Melinda Sharff-Eggers, Gladbrook, with the Tama County Public Health and Home Care has been designated as one of these 100 Iowa Great Nurses for 2016. The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses that have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their patients, colleagues and the nursing profession, and are viewed as mentors to other nursing profession, and are viewed as mentors to other nursing professionals. This year’s honorees exemplify all of the principles on which the 100 Great Iowa Nurses Celebration was founded. Tami Wise reported to the Board of Supervisors the quarterly report on the Health Insurance Fund. On July 21, 2015 the balance in the fund was $2,012,322.76 and at the end of April 2016 the balance is $2,003.011.11. The weekly road report from County Engineer Lyle Brehm shows the Bridge Crew working to replace the deck on a bridge on Highway D65 about one mile west of Iowa Highway 21. There was some minor work to be completed with the guardrail which was to be completed this morning. The road should be open yet today. The Bridge Crew will next be moving to Abbott Avenue south of 150th Street. Here they will replace a posted timber bridge with a large pipe. Grundy county will participate in paying for the project. After that the Crew plans to move to L Avenue about one and one-half miles south of Highway D65, to replace the piles on that bridge. The bridge does not currently have a weight restriction but is on the edge of requiring one. The deck on the bridge on the west side of Elberon was placed on Friday. Placement of the 175 cubic yards of concrete went very smoothly, according to Brehm. The deck will need to cure for a minimum of one week before the contractor places the rail. Beyond that the contractor needs to clean up the site and bring in subcontractors for placement of the approach pavement and guardrail. Brehn says Jerico has been in to place dust control in many Tama County areas. Other vendors will also be placing dust control in the near future. Claims for the past week came to $261,843.27.
