Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

Larry Jones from the Middle Cedar Watershed -NCRS, was present for the Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning. A resolution was proposed, but was tabled until next Monday for some changes to be made. Fox Ridge Winery, 1465 L Avenue, Traer, has applied for a renewal of their liquor license. This is a Class C Native Wine (WCN), outdoor service and Sunday sales. The Fox Ridge Winery is owned by Michael and Gweneth Seda. The renewal will take effect on May 24, 2016 and expire May 23, 2017. County Engineer Lyle Brehm was present for a short time and told supervisors they were working on a bridge close to the Geneseo School building on Highway D65. Brehm says they closed the road today and hope to have it completed within two weeks, if weather conditions are favorable. Mindy Benson, Emergency Management Director was present to discuss LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) status. Benson said a resolution was passed several years ago which focused on hazardous materials. Benson would like to see this rescinded and a new resolution passed to focus on all hazards, not just materials. Benson stated Tama County has three main highways running through, Highway 21, 30 and 63, as well as a railroad, several large businesses. Benson feels they should be focusing on all angles of the county. There is no cost to join the LEPC. Joe Boll was present stating Tama County focuses on Tama County, and the bigger group on Hazardous material. The LEPC would look at response for everything in the county. Claims approved for t he past week came to $249,840.30.
