Utah man faces kidnapping charge-16-Year-Old Garwin Girl In Internet Relationship-By John Speer Editor jspeer@tamatoleodnews.com

More than two years of contact via the internet between a Garwin teenager beginning when she was age 13 and a now 28-year-old Utah man led to his arrest on a 3rd degree kidnapping charge by the Tama County Sheirff’s Office on March 19. Benjamin Don Braithwaite, with addresses on record of Orem and Payson, Utah, was charged by Tama County Sheriff’s Detective Bruce Rhoads. In the initial complaint filed on Jan. 6, it is alleged Braithwaite traveled to Garwin and picked up the girl at her residence and took her back to Utah. During the trip he took the victim’s cellphone and provided her with one of his own, the complaint states. The complaint charges evidence will show Braithwaite sexually and physically assaulted the victim in other jurisdictions.’ The complaint alleges Braithwaite and the then 13-year-old girl began conversations on the internet in 2013 and at age 14 “was having inappropriate sexual internet conversations” with her.. It goes on to say Odem, Utah, detectives told Braithwaite in 2013 the victim, her parents and Marshalltown Police “wanted him to have no further contact in any way with the victim.” In a preliminary hearing on March 29, Magistrate Ann Kuther found there was probable cause in the case and continued bond for Braithwaite at $200,000 cash only. Rhoads told The Chroincle the case represents a cautionary tale for young girls who surf the internet. Burglary, theft suspect trial set June A jury trial for Robert Duane Dunek Jr., 36, Ely, Iowa, has been set for June 6 in Tama County District Court in Toledo. He is accused of three counts of 2nd degree theft and one count of 3rd degree burglary to which he entered written not guilty pleas on March 24. In charges filed by Tama County Sheriff’s Detective Bruce Rhoads, Dunek is accused of 2nd degree theft involving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck, 2000 Ford pickup truck and a 1999 Ford pickup truck. He also faces a 3rd degree burglary for allegedly entering a residence and shop in the 2700 block of Tama county Road E66 at rural Chelsea and aided and abetted otehrs in taking items. The incidents occurred in September, 2014, according to court records.
