Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese

Tama County supervisors met Monday morning with Kendall Jordan absent for the first half of the meeting, due to a fire call earlier. Lyle Brehm, county engineer, reports the Engineer’s department is in the process of getting information on the purchase of a couple of new trucks. Brehm says he wants trucks that are heavy duty and will inform supervisors when he gets more information as to the capability and cost of the vehicles. Brehm also says the road department will be doing some work this spring and summer on the paved roads with cracks in them. Brehm says they plan to fill the cracks with oil to keep the water from filling them and causing more damage. One of the areas will be Highway E49 from the Raven Creek bridge east to Tama. The road department will continue to haul gravel to get rural roads back in shape after the winter months. Supervisors set April 11th at 10:30 a.m. for canvassing the April 5th South Tama County Community school election. An application for property tax relief was approved for Luella Hora from Clutier. This was recommended by the Department of Human Services. This does not eliminate the property tax, only suspends the tax to a later date. Safety officer appointments were Lyle Brehm, engineers office, Craig Wise, conservation, Dirk Henle, maintenance, Ron Green and Doug Carlson, road department foremen. They will attend safety meetings held for counties, and report back to their departments with new and present safety rules.
