Tama Co. Supervisors By Joyce Wiese
Tama County Supervisors Kendall Jordan, Dan Anderson and Larry Vest decided at their regular Monday meeting, March 21, they would discuss the County Home at the next board meeting. MONDAY, MARCH 28th, AT 9:30 A.M., THE TAMA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL MEET IN REGULAR SESSION. ON THE AGENDA WILL BE THE DISCUSSION OF WHAT TO DO WITH THE NOW VACATED TAMA COUNTY HOME, NORTH OF TOLEDO. Mindy Benson, Director of Tama County Emergency Management, was present and told supervisors she has some concerns as to what becomes of the County Home building. Benson stated her concerns were about the safety of the equipment stored there by her department. Benson stated the equipment is valuable and she has concerns about vandalism if the building was sold to private individuals. If you are interested in the outcome of the County Home building, your chance to ask questions will be next Monday. Lyle Brehm, County Engineer, proposed a new Crop Damage schedule for 2016. Crop damage for farm land raising corn would be $800.00 an acre (for corn), $500.00 an acre for beans, $150.00 an acre for oats and seed, $300.00 an acre for Hay and $100.00 an acre for Pasture. This will be effective immediately. Brehm also told supervisors he is looking into the purchase of two heavy duty trucks. Brehm says what he needs is trucks with a heavier duty rear end due to the heavy loads of gravel and sand they haul. No decision has been made at this time. Tami Wise was present and suggested supervisors name a new PIO (Public Information Officer) to replace the recent Dr. Dennis Mallory. This position has been vacant since Mallory’s death. Mindy Benson was appointed to this position. Tami Wise also told supervisors that Wellmark is offering identity Protection Services beginning March 1st. Wellmark will be allowing groups to choose if they want to offer this to their employees. The Identity Protection services offered in 2016 will be free to Tama county employees. Starting March 1, 2016, eligible Wellmark members may enroll in the identity protection services through their Wellmark account. Claims approved for the week came to $175,395.72
